The luxury of dining in the original home of Casa Batlló how much does it cost?
The third floor of Gaudí's iconic building offers rooms for rent by the hour and its own gastronomic offer
BarcelonaFour generations of Batlló lived on the third floor of Casa Batlló, this modernist gem on Barcelona's Passeig de Gràcia designed by architect Antoni Gaudí that amazes everyone who visits it. The descendants of the Batlló family had lived in this apartment for more than a hundred years, until 2019, which is why had been preserved with an "exceptional authenticity" and now, the property has been opened to the public and you can have a meal there, after a meticulous renovation, in which all the original elements have been respected and restored – even a previously unknown handle designed by Gaudí has been discovered–. In the renovation, the talent of Italian architect and designer Paola Navone, from OTTO Studio, was chosen to make a proposal that was respectful of the place where it is located, but at the same time revised, as in the green mosaic counter that welcomes you.
This apartment can be rented in parts (it has 10 spaces, with varying prices) or as a whole. And what's more, Casa Batlló offers various services that can be hired. Can you imagine celebrating a birthday there? Or a work meeting, when you want to impress a client? In fact, it is an ideal space for meetings, because there is wifi, screens (very well hidden) and sockets. But as for food, it is also perfectly designed. Casa Batlló has a professional kitchen, with its own chefs, who can provide whatever is needed: from a coffee break, a breakfast, a snack, a few glasses of wine (with a bar that is breathtakingly beautiful, as it overlooks the majestic blue interior of the building) or a full meal. What this space, called Private Rooms, does not accept are external caterings, for operational reasons. In other spaces of Casa Batlló, this is possible.
How do you access it, how do you book it, and above all, how much does it cost?
Anyone can access it as long as they book a room in advance. Right now, this floor is outside the usual visiting circuit, so it's the only way to see it. Making a reservation is very simple, you just need to access its website to do so or to make an inquiry. There they can tailor a suit. The smallest reserved area can accommodate 6 people and the largest 24. Even if the entire floor were rented, it could accommodate 90 for a cocktail-style event.
For the smaller spaces, prices start at 150 euros (VAT separate) per hour. From there, it goes up. And you can even combine several rooms, depending on your needs. Renting the entire floor, however, is not within everyone's reach. It has a surface area of approximately 350 m² and costs 7,500 euros (VAT separate), giving you the right to use it for half a day. However, Casa Batlló warns that "rates are dynamic and may vary depending on the season".
But there is a way to save on the room rental: by contracting a meal. If you choose the gastronomic menu, which costs 180 euros (with VAT already included), the room reservation is included in the price. This menu includes several starters, a main course to choose from, dessert, and petit fours. The proposal is for Mediterranean cuisine, quite elaborate in terms of starters, but very recognizable. Otherwise, you will have to bear the cost of renting the room and contracting services such as a coffee break, which costs 29 euros, or the executive menu, which costs 45 euros.
If you are among the lucky ones who can spend time at Casa Batlló as if you lived there: the apartment has a kitchen, living room, bathrooms, bed... Access is through the main entrance. You just need to mention it, and discreetly, you will be accompanied to your suite on the third floor. As if you were a Batlló, even if only for a few hours.
