BarcelonaThe frontal and the two side panels of the Sant Andreu de Sagàs altar have successfully completed their restoration process. The work, carried out by the company Kreit-restauro S.L. under the direction of the Center for Restoration of Movable Property of Catalonia (CRBMC), has allowed for the recovery of the chromatic "vividness," which had been hidden by previous interventions. Furthermore, the preparation and paint layers of the side panels have been stabilized, and the crack in the frontal has been repaired.
This intervention is the result of a three-way collaboration between the CRBMC, the Diocesan and Regional Museum of Solsona, and the Museum of Medieval Art of Vic (MEV). The result of this union can be seen in the exhibition Sagàs, the three faces of the altar. An exceptional Romanesque ensemble, curated by the historian Judit Verdaguer: from December until August in Solsona and then in Vic. The reunion of the three pieces allows for the recovery of the original vision of an "exceptional" Romanesque ensemble from more than eight centuries ago. The scenes of the childhood and passion of Christ on the sides connect with the martyrdom of Saint Andrew on the frontal, which presents the saint as "a model of fidelity to the faith based on the example of Christ".
The exhibition will be accompanied by an explanatory video about the different phases of restoration and a publication that will collect the results of the research and studies linked to the project. This project seeks to involve the people of Sagàs in the recognition of a shared legacy, key to the preservation and transmission of heritage to future generations.
