Chaos on the AP-7 due to three accidents involving trucks
Another accident at dawn on this same road has caused the death of a minor of 17 years
BarcelonaNew morning of chaos on the AP-7 due to two accidents involving trucks that have greatly complicated traffic. The accidents occurred near La Pobla de Montornès, in Tarragonès, and in Martorell, in Baix Llobregat, and are already causing kilometer-long queues.
The first incident occurred a few minutes after 6 in the morning and blocked this major road artery for hours in La Pobla de Montornès, heading south. The incident occurred between a truck and a car. The truck overturned and scattered its load, consisting of beverages, on the road.
Despite the spectacular nature of the accident, the Servei Català de Trànsit (Catalan Traffic Service) reported that there was only one minor injury and another injured person who was discharged at the scene. However, the effects of the accident on mobility will last for hours, as the truck occupies a large part of the road and the merchandise it was carrying will also hinder passage until it is completely cleared. During the morning, mandatory detours were made via exit 220 from El Vendrell towards the N-340, where severe traffic jams were generated from El Vendrell to Creixell heading south, and the AP-2 and A-27 are recommended as possible alternative routes. At two in the afternoon, Trànsit was able to reopen one lane, but traffic jams are still significant from Santa Oliva. There are also queues on the N-340 from El Vendrell to Creixell heading south and on the AP-2 from Santa Oliva to La Bisbal del Penedès and in Vila-rodona towards Lleida.
Heavy-duty cranes are working to remove the truck and its load. The accident occurred at kilometer point 230.5 of the AP-7 heading south and required the assistance of up to nine patrols from the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan Police), four units from the Bombers (Firefighters), and one unit from the Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) (Medical Emergency System).

Regarding the accident in Martorell, it occurred at kilometer 170 of the AP-7 southbound and also involved the collision of two trucks. Traffic jams of up to 11 kilometers accumulated from Castellbisbal, but around 12 p.m. traffic normalized. Civil Protection has put the Transcat plan on alert because one of the vehicles was transporting paint drums that fell onto the road and spilled their contents. The Firefighters have deployed four units for this incident, for which they received a notice at 8:27 a.m.
And there is still a third accident on this road that adds even more chaos to mobility because it blocks a lane in Maçanet de la Selva in the direction of Girona.
In addition, the Catalan Traffic Service has reported that this morning a 17-year-old girl from Gelida lost her life in a motorcycle accident on the same highway. For reasons still unknown, the motorcycle overturned and the passengers fell to the ground. At this moment, the girl, who was a passenger, was run over by a truck.
One slightly injured in the collision of a bus with a truck in Maçanet de la Selva
Furthermore, one person was slightly injured in an accident between a truck and a bus on the AP-7 in Maçanet de la Selva. There were 28 people traveling on the coach, according to the Bombers de la Generalitat. The alert was received by 112 at 9:20 a.m. The Bombers have deployed three units.
Another bus is expected to go to the accident site to pick up the passengers and continue the journey. The Emergency Medical System (SEM) has transferred the injured person to Trueta Hospital in Girona. Due to the accident, traffic jams are reported from Fogars de la Selva, according to the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT).
