BarcelonaThe Civil Guard has arrested a 25-year-old man in the Segovian municipality of Torrecaballeros for hiding his father's corpse in order to continue collecting his pension. As police sources confirmed to Efe, the man had been dead for a year and a half. It was the detainee himself who appeared before the police to inform them that for a year and a half he had been hiding his father's dead body in the family home.

On Thursday night, after receiving permission from the judicial authority, Civil Guard agents entered the family home and confirmed that the son had hidden the father's corpse inside a closet. The first indications suggest that the father's death, whose age has not yet been confirmed, could be due to natural causes, but the final forensic report is still awaited.

Up to two years in prison

The investigation remains open and the young man is scheduled to testify this very Friday before the duty judge. Sources close to the investigation indicate to Efe that the young man could face a crime of concealing a corpse, with penalties of between six months and two years in prison. It is not ruled out that he may also be charged with economic crimes if it is confirmed that the detainee was improperly collecting his parent's pension.
