The great documentarian Patricio Guzmán, the filmic memory of Chile, dies

Patricio Guzmán, Chilean director of some twenty documentaries, has died at 85 in Paris. Guzmán directed one of the great political documentaries in history, the monumental The Battle of Chile (1975-1979), a three-part reconstruction of the revolution and the subsequent overthrow of the Allende government.
