Alert in many regions today for a spell of showers and thunderstorms
The next few days instability will be maintained and a clear refreshment will arrive
BarcelonaToday instability will clearly increase again. The low pressure system from the western Iberian Peninsula will send us a new unstable line that, along with cold air at high altitudes, will cause a new series of irregular showers and storms that could occur in practically any location during the afternoon – also on the coast –, locally with intensity and hail. Civil Protection has activated the Inuncat plan alert for this episode. And in the coming days, showers will be repeated in various regions, especially in the northeast and the Pyrenees. Temperatures will begin to drop, and by mid-week the cooling will be noticeable, with values below what would be expected for this time of year. All this after yesterday the week started with much calm and sun in most regions, with only afternoon showers concentrated in the Pyrenees and in the north of the Girona regions. Maximum temperatures peaked and ranged between 22 and 27 ºC in most cases.
Tuesday: showers and thunderstorms
Tuesday morning will still be quiet, with plenty of sun, morning fog, and a bit of tramontana wind north of the Alt Empordà and in Rosselló. But by mid-morning, cloudiness will already start to grow in mountainous areas, and from midday and throughout the afternoon, a series of showers and thunderstorms will arrive. They will start mainly in the pre-coastal areas, the Pyrenees, and inland, and although they will be irregular, they will sweep across a large part of the territory from west to east and will also reach the coast.
Some showers can be strong and leave more than 20 l/m² in just half an hour. In addition, hailstorms or some hail can occur, with intense wind gusts at the time of the storm. For this reason, Meteocat has activated the alert for intense rain in several counties.
Showers will also fall in the Els Ports area and in regions of Castellón, and more sporadically in the interior of Valencia and in some parts of the Balearic Islands. All this with temperatures that will begin to drop, especially after it rains. Many highs will still range between 19 °C and 24 °C, even a little higher in the south and west, but in the afternoon it will clearly cool down once it rains.
Cooling down and more drizzles
The coming days will maintain the typical spring instability, with showers and storms that will be repeated in several regions, especially during the afternoon. The most likely are expected in regions of Girona, Barcelona, and the Pyrenees.
All this with temperatures that will be dropping and will remain very restrained, below average. Mid-week, values more typical of early April than mid-May are expected.
