The police enter the home of actress Linda Blair (and her more than one hundred dogs)

In recent years, she has been a prominent activist for animal rights, but her good heart for critters brought her a setback this week: the Los Angeles police stormed her house, where she lives with over a hundred foster dogs, because they wanted to inspect the conditions in which the animals lived. Blair's ranch functions as a shelter while waiting to find them a new home, but the police had detected that the permits to operate under this regime expired in 2023.

The department responsible for animal care in Los Angeles County issued a statement assuring that the objective was to "inspect the property to verify if there were any constructions and structures associated with a temporary kennel operation." As they explained, after having unsuccessfully attempted to contact the interpreter, they had decided to appear at the house to check the state of the property. "Our role was to ensure the correct treatment of the animals, the safety conditions, and the general well-being of the dogs housed on the ranch."

Blair wanted to downplay the incident, saying that all that was needed was to resolve administrative paperwork. According to the police officers, the actress's attitude was cooperative at all times. Later, she went to her Instagram profile, where she has 12,000 followers, to explain that it had been a surprise visit, in the midst of heat exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. "But, as everyone knows, I am pending moving so I can be even more educational and help more animals. I prefer to move forward and forget the incident. And, as I always say, the old-fashioned way of writing a letter by postal mail always works," she concluded, ironically referring to the fact that the authorities claimed they had tried to contact her.

Blair lives relatively apart from the cameras. Her last television work was as a contestant on The Masked Singer, disguised as a scarecrow, while in cinema, besides participating in some documentaries, she was seen making a cameo in the last film of the saga of The Exorcist, in 2023, embodying, now older, the character that made her a celluloid legend.
