New shooting in Barcelona: a man dies from a gunshot to the head on Balmes street

The Mossos d'Esquadra are already investigating the events, which occurred next to a National Police office for issuing ID cards and passports. The station's cameras recorded the incident and the Mossos are already working with an image of the alleged perpetrator. The man received at least one fatal shot to the head. The perpetrator of the acts fled in the direction of Via Augusta and abandoned a bicycle helmet at a bus stop. Underneath the helmet, they found a pistol, presumably the murder weapon, as confirmed by ARA. The perpetrator also abandoned their mobile phone.

Witnesses explain that a man approached the victim and shot him in the back. Afterwards, he tried to shoot again but, seeing himself exposed —he was in front of a police station and there were people on the terraces of Balmes street— he decided to flee down Granada del Penedès street. Witnesses who saw him say he was wearing a beige polo shirt and a bicycle helmet.

Right now, the body is covered by security fences while the scientific police of the Mossos and the DIC investigators are carrying out checks. The judicial authority has also arrived.

Just three days ago, last Sunday, a man was shot dead in the Zona Franca. The Mossos are investigating this second case as a revenge execution related to drug trafficking.

This Wednesday's shooting, moreover, coincides with the Pope's visit to Catalonia, who this morning is visiting Brians prison and Montserrat.
