BarcelonaThis Wednesday, users around the world were shocked by the video that Donald Trump had posted on his social network, Truth Social. In a provocative spot generated with AI materialized his projects for Gaza, turning the Strip into a beach full of skyscrapers – emulating a tourist complex –, Tesla vehicles, casinos with his name and banknotes flying through the air. No sign of a Palestinian. The video ended with the image of a statue of the real estate magnate and a slogan: "Trump's Gaza." On Thursday, Italian filmmaker Andrea Gastaldon responded to the American president with a spin-off.

Titled Strip in trip (The Strip Travel), the film opens with an image of Donald Trump lying on the sand of the beach sunbathing, but the viewer can quickly realize that the sea water is stained with blood. With the music of California dreaming –by The Mamas & the Papas– in the background, the author of the clip links together a series of images of what he considers to be those responsible for the conflict in relaxed, everyday poses while ignoring the magnitude of the barbarity they have perpetrated, with more than 50,000 deaths according to official figures. Leaders such as the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu; the businessman Elon Musk; the former American President Joe Biden, and the former Vice President Kamala Harris play happily on this beach: making sand castles, with a water pistol or licking an ice cream. Also appearing are the Italian President, Giorgia Meloni, and Ursula von der Leyen putting sunscreen on Trump, in an analogy with his behavior regarding the conflict in Gaza. And the clip closes with a toast between Trump and Netanyahu in front of a sunset.

The video was released on the same day that Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said he would allow Palestinians who want to leave Gaza voluntarily. "We have begun an accelerated process to establish a voluntary immigration administration and allow those who want to leave Gaza voluntarily to do so through the Ashdod port and through Ramon airport," he said in a statement. The announcement, which comes days after US President Donald Trump's message to displace the population of Gaza, is a further step towards the final expulsion of Palestinians from the enclave.

Reactions

The crudeness and audacity of Trump's video surprised even comedians who are more accustomed to black humor. In fact, the program Poland TV3 responded to the Trump clip with a gag they had aired on a previous programme, in which they announced "Golden Palestine, city of jobs", a tourist complex not suitable for "human rights snobs".

Also in a satirical tone, the humor medium The World Today claimed authorship of the spot: "To avoid social alarm, the editorial staff ofThe World Today claims authorship of the latest video released by Donald Trump," they posted on their Instagram page.
