Preserves and sausages, two of the essential ingredients of La barra del Solomillo

BarcelonaThe Solomillo bar aims to be an informal space: you can sit at a high bar or at a noble, large high table, shared with other diners. Both are comfortable and cozy, and at the table, the options are simple, but it's that simplicity that many of us want: tomato salad, with real flavor, a platter of Iberian ham, Joselito, with glass bread rubbed with tomato skillfully, and if you're up for it, a beef burger, which you'll find with different combinations: I chose mine with arugula, and, of course, it comes with a bowl of French fries, which is neither too big nor too small, just enough.

The tomato salad.

The waiters tell me that many of the products on the menu at La Barra del Solomillo, which they have just launched, have been chosen because they belong to protected designations of origin (PDO) and protected geographical indications (PGI). Before this space existed, there was a delicatessen, and that is why they have cured meats, cheeses, and also the machines to cut them on the spot. In fact, the ham, one hundred percent Iberian and from the Joselito brand, will be cut for you in front of you, and in the quantity you request.

On the wine list, you will find the option of wines by the glass. I chose a glass of Vespres, from the producer Josep Grau, from the Montsant designation of origin. And the average bill, 30-40 euros, and lower, if you opt for sharing. And the best thing, the opening hours: La Barra del Solomillo is open from Monday to Sunday, at midday and also in the afternoon, from 4 to 7 p.m., when you can choose a tapa (ham, anchovies) and a good glass of wine. You can find it inside the Alexandra Hotel, on Carrer Mallorca.
