BarcelonaThe Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has initiated an administrative procedure to extinguish the authorization of the Catalan company Holaluz as an electricity marketer, as it has been considered that the company has failed to comply with the obligations required for the exercise of this activity. In parallel, the ministry has also initiated the procedure for the transfer of the company's clients to a reference marketer, as reported in the Official State Gazette (BOE) this Saturday. Sources from the department have confirmed to the Efe agency the opening of the file, although they have not yet specified the reasons.

Official State Gazette (BOE) this Saturday. Sources from the department have confirmed to the Efe agency the opening of the file, although they have not yet specified the reasons.

The Director General of Energy Policy and Mines adopted the resolution on July 16 and opens a period of ten working days, starting this Sunday, for the company to present any allegations it deems appropriate. The marketer, which is listed on the BME Growth, reduced its losses by 29.5% in 2025, to 22.2 million euros, while its revenue fell by 41%, from 271 million in 2024 to 158.9 million euros. The company attributes this evolution of the fiscal year to the final phase of the judicial approval process of its financial restructuring plan and to the subsequent disbursement of the convertible loan, after the entry of the investment fund Icosium as the main shareholder.

The company closed 2025 with 167 employees, compared to 292 in the previous fiscal year, representing a workforce reduction of 42.8%, and with approximately 221,000 active contracts in Spain.

The company also announced in April its return to the natural gas marketing business, from which it withdrew in September 2022 as a consequence of the price escalation caused by the war in Ukraine. Holaluz justified the recovery of this service by the demand from its clients for a joint electricity and natural gas offering managed from a single platform.

Holaluz assures that the procedure is "a specific administrative procedure"

For its part, the company Holaluz considers that the procedure initiated by the Ministry for Ecological Transition to extinguish its authorization as an electricity marketer is "a specific administrative procedure" and has guaranteed supply to its clients. In a statement sent to the stock market regulator BME Growth, and to which the Efe agency has had access, Holaluz assures that "it is a specific administrative procedure within the regulatory framework of the sector, which the company is managing in accordance with usual procedures".
