June marks a record for new business creation in Catalonia

10% more commercial companies have been formed, the second best historical figure for a month of June in the Principality.

BarcelonaThe creation of new companies in Catalonia grew by 10.2% year-on-year in June, with a total of 1,950 commercial companies established. This month, the number of companies dissolved was 119, a 4.8% decrease compared to the same period last year, according to data published Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute. This is the second-best figure in the historical series for company formation in June in the Principality. With this increase, company creation in Catalonia has seen two consecutive months of year-on-year growth.

Just over €113.69 million was subscribed for the incorporation of the 1,950 companies created last June, representing a 64.19% increase compared to the same month last year. Furthermore, of the 119 companies that closed last June in Catalonia, 73 did so voluntarily; 26 due to mergers with other companies; and the remaining 20 for "other reasons." Furthermore, as many as 416 Catalan companies increased their capital in June, a 1.9% decrease, but the subscribed capital in these increases reached €219.56 million, a figure 19.9% higher than in June of the previous year.

Figures in Spain

This increase in the creation of commercial companies has been widespread throughout Spain. Across the country, 10,964 commercial companies were created in June, 15.0% more than in the same month of 2024. Thus, the capital subscribed for their incorporation registered an annual decrease of 6.2%, and the average subscribed capital (€40,332) decreased by 18.4%. Meanwhile, 2,262 companies increased their capital, 4.3% more than in June 2024, and the number of commercial companies dissolved increased by 1.4% year-on-year. 79.9% did so voluntarily.

In fact, business creation increased in all regions compared to the same month of the previous year, with the Valencian Community (+33.63%), the Basque Country (+28.02%), and La Rioja (+25%) leading the way. The only exceptions are Cantabria, where the index fell 7.45%, and Murcia, with a decline of 5.1%. Regarding company dissolution, Extremadura (+200%), Navarra (+133.33%), and Cantabria (+63.64%) were the regions where the most companies were destroyed year-on-year, while Murcia, La Rioja, and Asturias had the fewest. Regarding sectors, 20.3% of the commercial companies created in June were in the real estate, finance, and insurance sectors, and 15.7% in commerce. In contrast, among the dissolved companies, 18.2% were in commerce and 16.4% in construction.
