Battery Energy Storage Tech Europe is born to promote the new energy storage economy

The first edition of Battery Energy Storage Tech Europe will be held on September 8 and 9, 2026, at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona. The trade fair will bring together companies, institutions, associations, and experts in the field of energy storage at a time of growth in the sector, which is advancing as a key infrastructure for the energy transition, the electrification of the economy, and European industrial development.

Organized by Fira de Barcelona, the event will be a meeting point for the main players in the sector to foster collaboration between industry, research, public administrations, and sectorial entities, and to discuss the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly expanding field. Specifically, the new trade fair will bring together more than 100 companies, institutions, and associations and will feature an exhibition area where more than 50 companies and entities linked to different areas of the value chain will participate. The new trade fair will combine exhibitions, technical debates, and networking.

Four content axes

Battery & Energy Storage Tech Europe is presented as a platform to drive innovation and collaboration among the different players in a rapidly expanding ecosystem and will be structured into four main blocks. The first will be dedicated to industrial and emerging applications, with references to sectors such as data centers, advanced manufacturing, logistics, railways, heavy mobility, and critical infrastructure.

The second axis will focus on technologies and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), with content on storage architectures, grid integration, intelligent management, new chemistries, and applied artificial intelligence. The third will deal with battery recycling and second life, while the fourth will focus on policies and regulations, with topics related to European industrial strategy, financing, supply security, and competitiveness.

The new congress of the fair will address the main challenges of a sector that moves close to 58 billion euros and is called upon to play a central role in European industrial strategy in the coming decades. The inclusion of the trade show in the calendar responds to a determined commitment by Fira de Barcelona to one of the fastest-growing sectors in Europe, from an industrial and technological point of view.

Leading experts

The inaugural edition will feature fifty top-level experts. Among the confirmed speakers are Christian Barba, from EDP Renewables; Naim El Chami, from Neoen; Pablo Fernández-Santos, from Basquevolt; Graeme Purdy, from Ilika; Veeral Hardev, from Blue Current, and Alex Cipolla, from Volta Foundation.

Also participating will be José Moisés Martín, CEO of CDTI; Joan González Fabra, from BEPA; Jean Louis Cols, from Flow Batteries Europe; Simon Steffgen, from BVES; Giorgio Travaini, from Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking; Sonja Risteka, from SolarPower Europe, and Francisco Carranza, from Upcell Alliance.

In the scientific and technological field, the program will feature experts linked to the ALBA synchrotron, ITE, CIDETEC, and Eurecat, including Laura Simonelli, Leire Zubizarreta, Óscar Miguel, and Pol Torres.

Value chain

The exhibition will bring together companies and organizations related to raw materials, advanced materials, manufacturing, validation, safety, components, software, digitalization, and circularity solutions. Among the participants are companies such as Omron, Monolithic Power Systems, Farnell Global, Relats, Battech, Halide Energy, Alvatek, LiCAP, Basquevolt, Acciona, Endesa, Veolia, Naturgy, EDP Renewables, Galp, Neoen, CIC energiGUNE, and SolarPower Europe.

The presence of these players reflects a value chain that ranges from raw material processing to recycling and second life, including manufacturing, integration, and development of digital control systems.

The first edition of Battery Energy Storage Tech Europe aims to make Barcelona a benchmark city for the debate on the future of energy storage, a sector that goes beyond mobility and is destined to shape the European economy in the coming years.
