Where and when heavy rains are expected to affect
Civil Protection calls for caution without resorting to alarmism

BarcelonaIn view of the heavy rain that is expected to affect Catalonia in the coming hoursThe Meteorological Service and Civil Protection have issued a general call for calm, but without letting their guard down: people should be careful when moving around, avoid flood-prone areas, and be aware of the weather if engaging in outdoor activities.
According to these agencies—which report to the Department of the Interior—intense rainfall will continue from early Saturday morning until Sunday, and may be accompanied by violent weather, such as hail. Although major hailstorms are not expected, authorities warn that in some areas more than 40 liters of water per square meter could accumulate in just half an hour, and they recommend caution, especially in the regions of the "northern half" of Catalonia, where the strongest intensities are expected. "It will rain everywhere, but not always with the same intensity," explained Meteocat.
Although they do not wish to cause public alarm, Civil Protection and Meteocat have warned people to be extremely careful in areas near ravines, torrents, and streams, which could rise "significantly." "The rainfall will move from south to north and from west to east, and by early Sunday morning, rain will only remain at the upper end of the Costa Brava," the service reports, noting that the episode will end on Sunday.
Stay well informed
Civil Protection has activated the Inuncat plan to monitor rainfall, and operations are already prepared to handle heavy downpours. They have also coordinated with the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) and the Ebro River Basin Authority (CHE) in case it is necessary to warn the population. No incidents are expected on large rivers such as the Ebro or the Noguera, but some increases in water levels are possible in parts of the Lleida plain, such as Sió. They also advise caution in areas where water may accumulate, such as basements.
Given that Saturday is a travel day, Civil Protection recommends staying well-informed about the weather and, if possible, postponing outdoor activities—such as hiking, excursions, or festivals—for Sunday. If you plan to travel, they recommend taking extreme precautions and reducing speed when necessary.
