The murder of a woman in Lloret is being investigated as gender-based violence.

According to sources consulted by ARA, everything points to the victim being a sex worker. The police are also investigating whether a previous sexual assault had occurred before the homicide. On Thursday, the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested a 35-year-old man for his alleged involvement in the events, who has a history of sexual violence.

The incident took place in a tourist apartment in Lloret de Mar, and the management company in charge of the checkout discovered the woman's body. There was a large amount of blood in the apartment, and the woman's body showed bruises and bruises. Questioned by the Mossos d'Esquadra, the suspect admitted he had been in the apartment, but claimed he doesn't remember anything.

The Mossos d'Esquadra reached him because he had left identifying documents in the apartment where the woman's body was found. After a few hours, they located him and arrested him as the alleged perpetrator of the crime. The cause of death is still unclear, and it has not been ruled out that knives were used in the crime. The detainee is expected to be brought before Investigating Court No. 5 of Blanes (Selva), which is investigating the case, between tomorrow and next Sunday.

Five femicides in 2025

Catalonia now has five femicides this year, after being confirmed as such. The Lloret de Mar case is not yet included in this ranking until the sexist nature of the crime is confirmed.

Of the 153 victims, 143 were women and 10 were children and young people murdered in the context of sexist violence. The number of children orphaned by sexist violence is expected to be 2 in 2025 and almost 100 in the last decade.
