BarcelonaAmerican actor Michael Douglas has revealed, through his first autobiography, that he had a romantic relationship with Kathleen Turner. The actress was his co-star in the film Romancing the Stone (1984). According to People magazine, citing excerpts from the book, Douglas and Turner decided to keep their relationship a secret for four decades. The actor's autobiography is titled One Helluva Ride and goes on sale October 6th.
Douglas, 82, recounts that he met Turner during the filming of the movie in Mexico and asserts that "immediately" they felt attracted to each other. "The chemistry I had with Kathleen Turner was so strong that, for years, the public was convinced that we had a romantic relationship while we were filming the movie. We both denied it," the actor says in the book. At that time, Douglas was separating from his first wife, Diandra Douglas. Although they were still married when he left for Mexico, the couple was living separate romantic lives, the actor explains.
Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner worked together again in The Jewel of the Nile (1985), in The War of the Roses (1989), and in the series The Kominsky Method (2018). "Every time they asked us if we were together, we denied it," recounts Douglas. "The official version was as follows: Yes, we had incredible chemistry. Yes, both of us were, as Kathleen used to say, 'very flirtatious' and yes, we were both tempted, but nothing ever happened between us. That was a lie to protect my wife and my son. A lie we told everyone for 40 years," writes the performer.
In 2000, Douglas married actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, with whom he has two children. In 2013, their divorce was announced, which the actor attributed to the "bipolar disorder" that the performer suffers from.
