The royal family watching the France-Spain match of the 2026 World Cup.

I really liked seeing the four members of the royal family on a sofa, dressed in the new Spanish national football team kit, watching the semi-final match and hugging each other from time to time. Do I understand that it must have been their living room? It wasn't a bar. They didn't invite friends, which is something you do when you're the one with the big TV and you pay for a subscription. I understand that the friends (of the two daughters or of the couple) must have preferred to go down to the bar. That's perfectly understandable. At the bar, there's something to eat and drink, and, if all goes well, they have air conditioning. On the other hand, at the Bourbons' there wasn't even a sad little plate of roasted potatoes or peanuts and not a can of hops, just some cheeses with a dramatic strawberry on top. There was no sign of a fan anywhere. Perhaps it was a ceiling fan.

It's not to brag, but I, when I invite friends or family to watch matches, to compensate them for having to travel from the capital to the palace, which is on the outskirts, I make them a bread with tomato and I give them a bottle of picapoll and mandó from Bages, to accompany. I understand that, halfway through the month, as we are, you can't afford many luxuries, because on the twentieth you pay taxes (in installments) and maybe the prorated VAT, which is a hefty sum, and there's still a long way to go until payday (I suppose the king and infanta's salary is paid on the 30th). But only putting out a few sad glasses of water is very stingy. I can only understand it if the match had started and they hadn't prepared anything yet. I want to think that the grandmother of the family, Queen Sofia, who was not in the living room, was in the kitchen, preparing the Spanish omelette, which is something that turns out well price-wise, because potatoes and onions are cheap, and you collect and recycle the frying oil.
