The RAC1 and RAC 105 staff call off the strike after an 'in extremis' agreement

BarcelonaCatalonia's leading station, RAC1, was on the verge of experiencing its first-ever strike day this Friday. This was the decision of the workers, who in a statement criticized "the direction of the company's drift," while also demanding "a change in the management model." The mobilization was the response, according to their explanation, to "months of discontent caused by a management style that the staff considers based on pressure, lack of trust, and inadequate treatment of workers." The trigger has been a dismissal from the management area, which the works council demands be reversed. The stoppage was also to affect the sister music radio station, RAC105, but an agreement at midnight led to the reconsideration of the stoppage. "It was an agreement in extremis after a marathon day of negotiations. Some of the points demanded by the staff have been achieved, and the committee has considered them sufficient to call off the protest," explained the workers' representatives in a new statement.

But beyond the specific labor issue of the dismissal, it was also pointed out that "the situation has been aggravated by the negotiation of the new collective agreement in which the management had rejected a large part of the improvements proposed by the workers' representatives, both in terms of salary and in the recognition of professional roles." The tensions had broken the negotiation of the new collective agreement. With the stoppage finally called off, the staff demanded the replacement of the current management, the rehiring of the dismissed worker, an evaluation of psychosocial risks, the recovery of "a management model based on respect, trust, and participation," and social and economic improvements in the agreement, in addition to the "recognition and remuneration of the roles that many workers have been performing for years."
