Scotland leads the European ranking of deaths from drug use

Scotland is once again recording a sharp increase in drug-related deaths. In 2025, 1,133 people died there, 11% more than in 2024, and the mortality rate remains the highest in Europe. Nitazenes, highly potent synthetic opioids, have exacerbated an endemic crisis that has lasted for years.
