BarcelonaAn Israeli soldier killed a 7-month-old baby and injured its parents by shooting at the car in which a family was traveling, even though the vehicle had stopped obeying his orders. The events occurred in the Tel Rumeida neighborhood, in Hebron, a Palestinian district isolated from the rest of the city by Israeli military checkpoints. The infant, Sam Fahd Abu Haikal, died at the hospital due to the shots.

In an interview with the Israeli newspaper "Haaretz", the child's father, Fahd Abu Haikal, a professor at Bethlehem University, explained that it was still daylight when the events occurred on Friday evening. "The soldier signaled me to stop. I stopped the car completely and put my hands on the steering wheel. Immediately, he shot at the vehicle." According to him, a bullet went through his hand and hit the infant, who was in the back seat in his mother's arms. Also traveling in the car were the older son, aged 11, and the children's grandmother. The Israeli army has said it is investigating the events and that the soldiers shot because the vehicle was accelerating.

Abu Haikal denies the military's version: "The soldier was 10 meters away: he saw me and he saw my wife and the children. It happened in broad daylight and we don't have tinted windows. Everything was very clear. They can't say they didn't see that we were a family. I stopped the car completely, as they told me, and they simply shot at us." The father calls for an investigation: "If there is a minimum of conscience, a minimum of legality, a minimum of morality, I hope the soldier who shot will be held responsible for his actions."

On March 15, another incident occurred in the village of Tamoun, in the northern Jordan Valley, when Israeli soldiers shot at the car in which a family was traveling and killed the parents and two children, aged 5 and 6. According to the UN, a thousand Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers since October 7, 2023. Among the fatalities are 240 minors.
