Sotelo: the new restaurant with a Francoist name that will open in Barcelona's Plaza Francesc Macià.
It will occupy the space of Camarasa Fruits, which has had to transfer the business following its bankruptcy proceedings.

BarcelonaCamarasa Fruits This year, the company has experienced a severe economic downturn, which is why it has filed for bankruptcy and has had to sell off its beautiful establishment in Francesc Macià Square. They had a restaurant and a fruit and cheese shop there. And what will go in its place? Well, a restaurant called Sotelo. Calvo Sotelo was a minister under Primo de Rivera and a martyr of Franco's regime. That's why they named the current Francesc Macià Square after him. A name that is now only used by those nostalgic for the dictatorship and that the new owners have wanted to recover. And who are the new owners?
According to the news Global ChronicleÁlex Fernández, owner of the cryptocurrency company BitBase, and businessman Tito Bosch. These would allow the family that owned it until now to manage the fruit stand and, therefore, retain its employees. The rest of the establishment would be used for the new Sotelo, which would be a restaurant and drinks space.
The Plaza Francesc Macià was originally named Alcalá Zamora in 1932, in honor of the president of the Second Spanish Republic. Later, in 1936, it was renamed in memory of the Badia brothers, murdered by the FAI. In 1939, it was renamed Calvo Sotelo. It wasn't until 1979, already under democracy, that it was named after President Francesc Macià. Thus, the name of the restaurant has a strong political connotation and indicates the ideology of the new owners and, perhaps, that of the people who will frequent it.
