Catalonia lives the eclipse of the century: all you need to know

Only a few hours remain until the historic total solar eclipse that will take place this Wednesday, August 12th. A phenomenon that has not occurred in our region for 121 years and which is causing great anticipation, both locally and internationally.
These are the seven things you should keep in mind before the eclipse that will occur this Wednesday, August 12th.
At what time will it begin?
In Catalonia it will begin this Wednesday August 12 at 7:35 PM and will end at 9:00 PM, just before sunset.
How long will it last?
The entire process, from when the Moon begins to cover the Sun, will last almost an hour, and the moment of total occultation will last a maximum of one and a half minutes.
What will the weather be like?
Even though it is foresees a calm sky, in areas such as the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees there will be cloudy spells that will leave some showers.
What are the best places to see it?
Lleida, Tarragona, Castelló, València, Palma and all the surroundings is where it can best be seen the total eclipse. In Catalonia, the best places to see it will be in Ponent and in the Terres de l'Ebre.
Can I take off my glasses during the eclipse?
It is only safe to observe the eclipse with the naked eye when it is total, but this will only be possible in the southern strip of Catalonia. Before and after, you must wear glasses.
Can I drive my car on the day of the eclipse?
There is prepared a special device of mobility. It is recommended to use high-capacity roads such as the AP-7, C-25, A-2, AP-2, A-7, and N-340, and to avoid secondary roads.
Will there be any restrictions?
Due to the high risk of fire, the Government has restricted access to wooded areas in Segrià, La Granja d'Escarp, Seròs, Almatret and the plains of Montmaneu, as well as the Natural Park of Els Ports and the Natural Park of the Serra del Montsant.
How exactly does an eclipse occur?
When the Sun and Moon are perfectly aligned and, therefore, the direct light from the Sun does not reach the Earth and it becomes dark.
