BarcelonaThe Mobile World Congress will incorporate three thematic verticals into its 2027 edition to bring together "companies that develop technologies connected to the real world". The next edition of the main global technology congress, which will be held between March 1st and 4th at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona, will reserve spaces for health (Connect Health), automotive (Connect Auto), and aviation (Connect Aviation). The CEO and Director of GSMA Ltd., John Hoffman, assured in statements to the media this Wednesday that these types of spaces are "imposing" themselves within the event, which gathered more than 105,000 people last year. Hoffman presented the first novelties of the fair together with the director of the GSMA in the country, Laia Ripoll.
The event will bring together in these new thematic spaces companies that "are already putting into practice the most innovative use cases of the moment". In the case of the health segment, the congress organization has announced the participation of the pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, which had a presence in the start-ups segment, 4YFN, but had never been in the main pavilions of the MWC. In the automotive field, the Chinese company Chery stands out among the exhibitors, which will take advantage of its visit to the Fair to present the Omoda 4 model. In the aviation vertical, organizations such as the British Cranfield University "will focus on how connectivity is transforming airports and the aviation sector".
High-level speakers
Beyond sectoral bets, the MWC will feature high-level speakers in sectors such as AI, telecommunications, and security. Among others, the participation of the voice generation company ElevenLabs has been announced through its co-founder and chief executive officer, Mati Staniszewski. Also participating will be Tarek Mansour, co-founder and chief executive officer of the prediction and betting platform Kalshi, now blocked in the State pending the resolution of a file opened by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030.
Also noteworthy is the first-time participation of the Japanese financial giant Softbank, which has accelerated its commitment to European AI with significant investments in data centers on the continent. These new additions will join major telecommunications firms, such as Vodafone, Telefónica, Orange, and Deutsche Telekom, as well as technology companies the size of Amazon, Meta, Samsung, and the Chinese company Xiaomi.
Regarding this proposal, Hoffman has shown himself to be more than optimistic about the 2027 edition. "The entire ecosystem is very strong," the executive assured in a meeting with the media. In this sense, the organizers expect a successful congress, pending the commissioning of Hall 0, which will bring the exhibition center up to 300,000 square meters of exhibition space. The forecast, it should be remembered, is that the new pavilion will be operational during 2027, but it would not be available for the MWC until the 2028 edition. In this regard, Hoffman has acknowledged that the growth demands of some of the exhibitors could not be met, and has stated that they aspire to fill all the new space once it is within their reach.
