Bon Preu will open the first Esclat supermarket in Barcelona

The company plans to open the establishment in December, ready for the Christmas campaign.

BarcelonaEsclat, the Bon Preu Group's hypermarket chain, will be opening in Barcelona for the first time. It will be located in the Culmia Themis Riera complex, on Riera Blanca Street in the Sants district, with a surface area of 7,973 square meters, of which 2,047 will be sales space, according to company sources confirmed to ARA. According to Bon Preu, the opening is expected to take place in December of this year, ready for the Christmas season.

The new Esclat Riera Blanca will have a butcher shop, a cured meat display case, a fishmonger and cooking oven, a fruit and vegetable shop, a bakery, a roast chicken shop, a delicatessen, a self-service cheese shop, a drugstore and perfumery, a bazaar, a wine cellar, a pharmacy, and an electric vehicle charging station.

The Themis Riera complex is managed by the real estate platform Culmia and is a space made up of a nursing home, two commercial premises, two residential buildings, and 6,300 square meters of green areas. The commercial premises delivered to Bon Preu are the largest of all, with an above-ground ground floor and a basement. The nursing home has also been delivered to Caboel, an investment group specializing in tertiary sector assets.

A dozen openings

During the first months of the year, the Catalan supermarket group has opened two Bonpreu stores in Terrassa-Matadepera and Barcelona (Travessera de Gràcia), an Esclat store in Cunit, and two gas stations in Inglés and La Seu d'Urgell. For the remainder of the year, the company plans to open a Bonpreu supermarket in Terrassa, Esclat stores in l'Ametlla de Mar (15 de Octubre), Barcelona (Riera Blanca), and Mollerussa, a mini-market in Cervelló, and two gas stations in l'Ametlla de Mar and Cervelló.

The Bon Preu Group, owned by businessman Joan Font, closed 2024 with a turnover of €2.421 billion, the best figure in its history as it was the first time it exceeded €2.4 billion, and grew 7.1% compared to the previous year. This figure includes sales from its more than 200 supermarkets as well as revenue from its other two lines of business: fuel sales and green electricity.
