Wednesday less warm and of standstill before a more important weather change

BarcelonaDuring this early morning and first hours of the morning, some local showers or drizzles have fallen on the central pre-littoral and between Maresme and Selva Marítima. Very little, as not even a liter has accumulated. They were the remnants of instability from the passage of a front tail that yesterday left intense showers and thunderstorms in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees and especially in the northeast, where real downpours occurred with hail or sleet that left, for example, about 54 l/m² in Sant Pau de Segúries (Ripollès) or 35 in Olot (Garrotxa).

Today we wake up with much cooler weather, and temperatures will also drop more during the middle of the day. A day with more moderate heat and a transitional period, as, temporarily, calm will dominate and no rain is expected anywhere. All this while awaiting a more active front that on Thursday afternoon will cause a spell of showers and strong storms in many more regions. A change in weather that will open the doors to a brief but more forceful cooling. We will breathe much better these days, but from the weekend onwards it will get hotter again.

Wednesday: calm and more breathable heat

This Wednesday until midday, the mistral and tramuntana winds will blow strongly in the south and especially in Empordà, where there will be rough seas and strong gusts. So far, a wind gust of up to 117 km/h has been recorded in Portbou, in Alt Empordà. But calm will dominate, with sun and only remnants of some low clouds and fog in the northeast, where a few local drops are not ruled out until mid-morning, especially between Maresme, Selva marítima, and Montseny. A tranquility that will continue in the afternoon, with sun and no rain anywhere. Only some harmless clouds will grow in the eastern Pyrenees.

Pleasant and opportune afternoon, with a north wind that will eventually subside to extremes. Temperatures will drop, both minimums and maximums. Therefore, cooler mornings and bearable heat in the middle of the day. Thermometers will only rise in areas of the Pyrenees. Most maximums will range between 26 and 31 °C, slightly higher in the south and Ponent.

More showers and cooling

Thursday a more active cold front will cross us, which from the afternoon will cause a more extensive spell of showers and thunderstorms. They will start in the Pyrenees and will sweep through many regions until nightfall. They will mainly affect the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, Central Catalonia, the regions of Girona and Barcelona, the Ports, and some showers may reach the Camp de Tarragona. Locally, some downpours may occur accompanied by hail or sleet.

A change of weather that will open the doors to the north wind and a clear drop in temperatures. Therefore, Friday will be a day with little heat or a very breathable atmosphere, and the nights of Friday and Saturday will be quite cool and without tropical lows anywhere. Many highs will move between 23 and 28 °C, clearly lower in mountainous areas.

However, this normalization of temperatures will not last long, as from the weekend the mercury will start to climb again. The summery atmosphere advanced for the dates will return, although in principle without any heatwave. Showers will be concentrated in the afternoons in the Pyrenees area.
