We're taking advantage of the calm weather these days: a significant change in the weather is possible at the end of the week.
Until then, tranquility will continue to prevail, with very pleasant temperatures at midday.
We continue to enjoy very calm weather, with no precipitation anywhere and somewhat high maximum temperatures for this time of year, making for pleasant middays. In fact, temperatures rose even further yesterday, especially in the northeast, where they reached 18°C. However, the sky remained and will continue to be cloudy with bands of high, thin clouds, while low clouds will reappear along the coast and pre-coastal areas, particularly in the morning. Today will maintain this calm pattern, with temperatures remaining similar. But we should make the most of these peaceful days, as the week could end with a significant change in the weather, bringing more rain, snow to the Pyrenees, and colder temperatures.
Wednesday: calm and gentle midday
The weather will remain very calm today, with high, thin clouds continuing to drift across the sky and soften the sun. Low clouds and morning fog will also return to inland plains and parts of the coast and pre-coastal areas, although they will be less widespread than on Tuesday. Between the afternoon and evening, the passage of a very weak front that will brush the western Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees will bring increased cloud cover to this area and the northern part of Poniente. But beyond a few showers, no precipitation is expected.
Temperatures will be similar to yesterday's or slightly higher, although they will drop slightly in the Lleida region. Many areas will see highs of 14 to 19 °C, especially along the coast and in the foothills. However, highs will be lower in inland areas where fog lingers, as well as in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. It will be moderately cold early in the morning, with only light frost in the valleys of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees and some very faint frosts in inland areas. A marked temperature inversion is expected, with colder temperatures at lower elevations than at higher elevations.
Subject to change at the end of the week
Thursday will be another very calm day, with generally sunny skies and mild temperatures at midday, but the thermometers will begin to drop slightly. The first changes will arrive on Friday, with the passage of a front that will increase cloud cover, and the first scattered, light showers will fall. The instability will intensify throughout the weekend. Cold air of polar origin will move in aloft, and a low-pressure system will form over our Mediterranean region. All of this will lead to increased precipitation. Current weather maps indicate that from Sunday onwards we will see another surge, with yet another heavy snowfall in the Pyrenees and rain across much of the country. It's raining on already saturated ground, and therefore, if these forecasts are confirmed, we will have to see if any reservoirs need to release water to accommodate the new precipitation, as the inland basins are already at 86% capacity after the abundant rains during the Christmas holidays. The situation remains uncertain and we will need to confirm it. Temperatures will drop, bringing colder, more wintry weather. These values will be more typical for this time of year.
