BarcelonaIf you leave home early, bundle up well. Temperatures have dropped significantly and the environment is cold everywhere, typical of late autumn and with values below average. The entire interior and a large part of the pre-coastal area are below 10 ºC first thing in the morning, and even on the coast, lows have ranged between 9 and 14 ºC, while in the Pyrenees many frosts have occurred. Thermometers hit bottom today, and in the middle of the day the environment will be between cool and mild. All this with sun and calm that will dominate everywhere and it will no longer rain anywhere today for the first time this month of October. The north wind will continue, although it will lose strength and will not record gusts as strong as those of the last few hours at the ends of the country.
A calm that arrives after yesterday saw the final burst of downpours and storms in the regions of Girona and Barcelona. A final episode of precipitation that was very irregular, but which left some local downpours. Noteworthy are the 38 l/m² accumulated in Banyoles (Pla de l'Estany), the 28 in Cantonigròs (Osona), or the 27 in Fogars de la Selva (Selva). Regarding the wind, since yesterday maximum gusts of up to 127 km/h have been reached in Portbou (Alt Empordà) or 101 km/h in El Perelló (Baix Ebre). Furthermore, in the western Pyrenees the snow level plummeted on Thursday, leaving the first dusting of the season at high altitudes.
Friday: calm returns
This Friday we wake up with a clearly colder atmosphere everywhere. A jacket is essential in many regions, and on the coast the feeling is also of very advanced autumn. Most lows have ranged between 3 ºC and 9 ºC inland and in a large part of the pre-coastal area, but lower in the Pyrenees, where there are many frosts, especially at higher altitudes, where it has dropped below -5 ºC. On the coast, the lows have also plummeted and have ranged between 9 and 14 ºC. The highs will also remain low and hit bottom, with most records between 17 ºC and 23 ºC, clearly lower in mountain areas.
A full autumn day that will be marked by widespread sun and absolute calm. It will not rain anywhere after many days of downpours and heavy rain. The mistral and tramontane winds will blow strongly until the morning on the peaks of the Pyrenees, in the Empordà, and in the Ebro, but in the afternoon the wind will lose strength and concentrate in the Empordà. Only traces of some local showers will remain between Mallorca and Menorca.
Weekend to make the most of
The weekend will be generally calm, with sunshine dominating especially on Saturday. On Sunday, a tail of a front will brush against the Pyrenees. This will cause an increase in cloud intervals in general – especially in the north of the country – but it will not rain. Only a few scattered showers might escape in the northern Pyrenees face.
No new episode of significant rainfall is seen in the medium term. Temperatures will rise starting from the weekend, but they will simply normalize, with an atmosphere between mild and slightly warm in the middle of the day, and very cool or cold nights. In short, we will have the weather that is appropriate for this time of the year.
