Cold nights, little heat during the day and the weather is not completely clear for the weekend
It will be sunnier, but there will still be some showers, awaiting calmer and warmer weather next week
BarcelonaThe passage of a polar front has caused a significant cool-down this Friday, with weather more typical of March than May. Temperatures have been between 3 and 8 degrees below the average for the season, and snow has fallen in the Pyrenees below 1,400 m, leaving wintery and postcard-like landscapes at medium and high altitudes. Showers and storms intensified during the afternoon in the center and north of the country and may recur until dinner time, also on the central coast. They will be locally strong and accompanied by hail. They are short-lived and accumulate little water: most have left between 2 l/m² and 8 l/m².
All in all, on the cusp of a weekend that will start very cold for the season. On Saturday morning and early morning, the air will be wintery, with quite general frosts in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. Maximums will gradually recover, but will remain very restrained. Saturday will be dominated by sun and north wind in the extremities, with only a few scattered afternoon showers in parts of the Pyrenees and the northeastern interior. On Sunday, a front will brush us that, along with the cold air we still have at altitude, will reactivate showers and thunderstorms in parts of the center and north of the territory. But next week the anticyclone will gradually settle in, and we will have much more calm and increasingly more heat.
Saturday: mercury under control and more calm
This Saturday we will wake up to cold weather. Morning jacket in general, or coat especially in mountain areas. Many lows will move between 3 °C and 6 °C inland, and from 9 °C to 12 °C on the coast. In the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, frosts will be quite general, but it seems that, fortunately for the farmers, they should not leave these areas. The highs will rise, especially in the northern half, but will remain very restrained still. Many values from 17 °C to 22 °C, a little higher in the south.
Sun and calm will dominate, with mistral and tramuntana winds at the extremes, and morning fogs in inland plains and valleys of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. Towards the afternoon, clouds will grow again in mountain areas, but only a few scattered showers are expected in parts of the Pyrenees and the northeast inland.
Sunday: more showers
Temperatures will rise more on Sunday, both day and night, although they will remain below average. Many highs will range between 17 °C and 23 °C, but will approach 25 °C in parts of Ponent and the southern interior. The morning will be calm, but in the afternoon instability will increase, with more irregular showers and thunderstorms expected towards the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, Central Catalonia, the pre-littoral, and the Ports.
An instability that will decrease in the coming days, as by mid-week anticyclonic calm will return to dominate. The cold air mass we currently have above us will move away, and this will cause heat to be more evident at midday from Wednesday onwards, with many maximums of 25 °C to 30 °C in the pre-littoral and inland areas.
