BarcelonaThe little summer peaked this Tuesday, with an atmosphere clearly too warm for the time of year. Many maximums of 21 to 26 ºC were recorded, but these figures were locally exceeded in Priorat and the Ebro valley. It was a short-sleeved midday more typical of September than late October, with up to five degrees above the average. But all of this will be history in the coming days, as starting this Wednesday temperatures will go down and normalize. The calm will continue to dominate, but some changes will begin to appear. We will reach the 'Castanyada' with an atmosphere typical for the time of year: it will be cold at night, and it will no longer be hot at midday.
Wednesday: first changes
During the early morning and until the first hours of the day, some light and local rain or showers may escape in the northern face of the Pyrenees and along the coast and pre-coast between Barcelona and Tarragona. Not much, but all this will cause more intervals of clouds in these areas during the morning, especially low ones. There will also be many morning fogs and low clouds inland.
In the afternoon, the sun will dominate in most regions, but low clouds will remain and clouds will grow between the coast and the pre-coast of Barcelona and the regions of Girona. A local rainfall cannot be ruled out in the northeast interior, especially in mountain areas. The tramontane will blow throughout the day in Empordà, and the mistral only in the morning in the Ebro.
Regarding temperatures, minimums will rise slightly, while maximums will begin to fall. The drop will be evident in the interior and in the Pyrenees, but near the sea this thermal change will not yet be very noticeable. Many maximums of 18 to 24 ºC are expected, a little higher in the southern interior.
Pending further changes
During the second part of the week, the anticyclone will be located more towards the center and north of Europe, which will allow the entry of colder northeasterly winds towards our region. This will cause a more pronounced drop in temperatures. Therefore, during the Castanyada and All Saints' Day weekend, we can expect cold nights and afternoons that are between cool and mild.
But instability will also increase, as cold air at high altitudes will be accompanied by maritime winds in the Ebre Lands, the Valencian Country, and the Balearic Islands. Precipitation is expected in these areas. Current maps indicate that the weekend could be quite rainy, especially in the Valencia area, with locally abundant rainfall. A situation that will need to be confirmed. In any case, a full autumn atmosphere is guaranteed for eating chestnuts and panellets by the fire.
