BarcelonaA group of unknown individuals attacked the juvenile center under the guardianship of the Generalitat (Catalan government) in Vallirana, Baix Llobregat, early Tuesday morning with two Molotov cocktails. The incidents caused no injuries, but they come weeks after the xenophobic attacks that have been experienced in other parts of the State such as Torre Pacheco or Piera. As has progressed The CountryThe incident occurred at 4:00 a.m., while the youths living at the center and the facility's workers were asleep. One of the objects hit an organization van parked outside, and the other fell into the garden without causing any damage. The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) have now opened an investigation to clarify the events.
Until now, no racist incidents like those seen in other parts of the country had been detected, according to the Catalan police and the Department of Social Rights. Early Tuesday morning, however, the 16 youths living at the center were attacked by unknown individuals. The Mossos d'Esquadra's General Information Commissariat is now trying to determine who they are and what their motives were. The Minister for Social Rights, Mónica Martínez Bravo, has "strongly condemned any act of violence" and warned that the Catalan government will not allow coexistence in the neighborhoods and towns of Catalonia to be jeopardized.
Martínez Bravo met yesterday afternoon with the mayor of Vallirana, Eva Martínez, and expressed his full support to her, as well as to the town's residents, workers, and young people in the center. The Minister for the Presidency, Albert Dalmau, explained that he had also spoken with the mayor of Vallirana. Dalmau condemned "all acts of violence" and stated that neighborhood coexistence "is the most important asset to preserve."
