A seven-year-old girl was killed on Sunday in Palma after a driver lost control of his car and mounted the sidewalk where she was walking with her mother and grandmother, who were injured. According to sources from the Palma Local Police, who are investigating the incident, the accident occurred around noon in the Coll d'en Rabassa neighborhood of the Mallorcan capital. The driver, a man in his fifties who was traveling with his wife and two children, drove onto the sidewalk for reasons that are still under investigation. He escaped injury but was taken to the hospital for tests.

The other occupants of the car also escaped unharmed, according to sources close to the investigation who spoke to the Europa Press news agency. Following the incident, both the girl's mother and grandmother required assistance from the on-call psychologists of the 112 emergency services who were dispatched to the scene. Local Police, National Police, and SAMU 061 paramedics also responded. The girl's mother, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to Son Espases Hospital, while the grandmother, who suffered minor injuries, was taken to the Juaneda Clinic. Although the causes of the accident are still under investigation, the main hypothesis being considered by investigators is that the driver suffered a medical episode, lost control of the car, and ultimately drove onto the sidewalk where the girl was walking with her mother and grandmother. In fact, the police have already administered a breathalyzer test, which came back negative.
