A fire has been burning in a wooded area in Palamós, in the Baix Empordà region, since mid-afternoon. Firefighters were notified at 6:31 p.m. and are currently working to extinguish the blaze with six helicopters, two airplanes, and 20 ground crews. The fire, which started near the Riera de Canyelles and is burning vegetation, has forced the lockdown of an area that includes Torre Simona, Camping Relax-Nat, Camping Relax-Ge, and Granja de Vidal. Civil Protection insists that doors and windows must be closed and that people must not go outside.

The Fire Department explains that the fire is spreading upwards, driven by the offshore wind, and that they are working to prevent it from spreading on both sides. They explain that the fire has created several secondary outbreaks and that the burned area currently affects the municipality of Mont-ras. In addition to the firefighters' aerial water drops, forest defense groups (ADF) are helping by tilling the fields in the area.

Regarding the weather in the area, this afternoon temperatures are around 26°C with 55% humidity, and a sea breeze is blowing at around 20 km/h. However, westerly winds are expected overnight, which will aid the firefighting efforts, and very light gusts tomorrow morning.

Although the severity of the fire cannot yet be determined because the alert was issued so recently, several users have reported on social media that the smoke column can be seen from places such as Palafrugell, Montras, and also from the sea. The 112 emergency service received up to 300 calls reporting the smoke column caused by the fire.
