BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating several robberies with violence and intimidation, allegedly related to each other and committed against adolescents in affluent areas of Barcelona and Sant Cugat del Vallès over the weekend. As reported by La Vanguardia and confirmed by police sources to ARA, the perpetrators were traveling on a motorcycle that had been reported stolen and allegedly used a firearm – which all evidence suggests was a replica – to intimidate the victims and steal their phones and even their clothing.
During the early hours of Sunday, around 4 a.m., five adolescents reported being victims of a violent assault in the Sant Gervasi and La Bonanova neighborhood, in the area of the intersection of Bertrand i Serra and Torras i Pujalt streets, in Barcelona. The Sarrià local festival was being celebrated in the area. According to the account of one of the victims collected by La Vanguardia, two hooded individuals traveling on a motorcycle intimidated them, first with an expandable baton and, later, with a firearm.
According to police sources, the young people explained that the assailants stole various personal items from them, including mobile phones, clothing, and footwear. According to the aforementioned newspaper, one of them was assaulted because he refused to hand over his belongings. The robbers then fled.
Two more robberies
The Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating the facts and, for the moment, no one has been arrested. The police suspect that the incident involving the five teenagers could be related to other violent robberies recorded within a few hours between Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
A few hours earlier, around 10 p.m., two men on a motorcycle also tried to steal a person's belongings on Carrer de les Escoles Pies, in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, but they fled without taking anything. Shortly after, around one in the morning on Sunday, there was another incident in Sant Cugat del Vallès. In this case, however, the motorcyclists did steal a mobile phone.
The investigation, which is in the hands of the Mossos d'Esquadra from the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi police station, remains open to clarify the circumstances of the assaults and identify the alleged perpetrators.
