In a context of high energy prices and a transition towards more sustainable models, companies and industries are seeking solutions that allow them to consume more efficiently, reduce costs, and take advantage of the growth of renewable energy. In this scenario, demand flexibility and battery storage are emerging as key tools for more efficient, competitive, and intelligent energy.

Nexus Energía: 25 years driving innovation and sustainability

With 25 years of experience, Nexus Energia is a leading energy services company: the third largest independent energy supplier in the Spanish market and the second largest representative of renewable energy producers, with more than 16,500 plants and an annual management of 18 TWh. From its inception, it has been committed to a more sustainable, affordable, and stable energy model. Its commitment to innovation translates into proprietary tools that empower customers to better understand, manage, and optimize their consumption. Among the advanced solutions for industrial clients, demand flexibility stands out, as well as the hybridization of self-consumption PPAs with storage and Energy Saving Certificates (EACs), where Nexus Energia has registered the first unique project in the sector. These initiatives, together with the innovation department, position the company as a key player in the advancement towards a more efficient and decarbonized energy system. Along this path, Nexus Energia collaborates with Bamboo Energy, its partner Technology specialist in advanced flexibility platforms.

Bamboo Energy: the leading technology for flexibility management

Bamboo Energy is a leading European company specializing in advanced energy management systems and flexibility optimization. Its mission is to accelerate the energy transition by helping energy retailers and energy service providers manage and monetize their customers' flexibility to offer products and services tailored to the new era of our energy system. Bamboo Energy implements a platform of software Based on artificial intelligence (AI), with a modular, cloud-native architecture, NexusFlex enables the management and monetization of energy storage systems, industrial assets, and power generation plants. The company manages energy flexibility in five European countries in partnership with major energy operators, optimizing everything from large battery banks to small energy communities.

Demand Flexibility: NexusFlex

Demand flexibility is the ability to adapt electricity consumption to off-peak hours, periods of greater availability of renewable energy, or grid needs. This approach transforms the consumer into an active participant in the electricity system, deciding when and how to consume, reducing costs, or generating revenue. To participate in the electricity system, these consumers need entities like Nexus Energia, which act as a demand aggregator. Through the Nexus Flex service, flexibility can be leveraged in two ways: shifting consumption to cheaper hours to generate savings or participating in flexibility markets when the grid needs support to generate revenue. A clear example is the pilot project at Distribuciones Monteverde, where, through the flexible management of cold storage facilities, savings of over 6% in electricity costs have been achieved, without affecting the production process and with the potential to access new revenue streams. Storage: the perfect complement to flexibility

This new way of consuming energy gains even more value when battery storage systems are added. These allow energy to be stored during off-peak hours and used during peak hours; increase flexibility and improve grid responsiveness; maximize self-consumption in photovoltaic installations; and reduce grid dependence during critical times.

Thanks to the integration of flexibility and more batteries, companies can make their consumption a much more efficient resource and manage their energy with intelligence, stability, and predictability.

SRAD: Revenue for all companies through flexibility

In addition to the NexusFlex service, Nexus Energía offers the Active Demand Response Service (SRAD), a regulated mechanism that allows companies to make their flexibility available to Red Eléctrica during critical system moments. The major development is that, with the recent reforms by the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC), participation is now open not only to large consumers but also to SMEs with smaller flexible consumption levels. For example, if an SME had participated in SRAD in 2025 with 100 kW of flexible power, it would have earned €25,000 simply for being available, not including activation fees. This represents the democratization of flexibility and a real revenue opportunity for all types of companies, while also contributing to grid stability and the energy transition. Towards smarter, more sustainable, and more participatory consumption

The combination of demand flexibility, digital technology, and battery storage opens a new chapter for businesses and industries: greater savings, increased stability, and a more prominent role in the electricity system. With solutions like NexusFlex, storage, and the SRAD service, Nexus Energia and Bamboo Energy offer businesses an innovative and accessible way to participate in the energy transition and transform how we consume electricity.
