Journalist and television critic

If there is a television event where we have traditionally seen the TV3 news teams having a great time, it is the United States election specials, whether it concerns the presidential elections or, as in this case, the midterm elections.

On Tuesday, at 5:50 in the morning, Raquel Sans opened the special program on TV3 to follow the count and the result. Just at the start, there was already news: the democratic tsunami that has wiped out Trump's political possibilities for the next two years. Geni Lozano and Xesco Reverter completed the trio of former correspondents in the United States who provided the analysis from the studio. In parallel, Lídia Heredia connected from Washington to delve into some details and circumstances of the day. Stupendous, overwhelming, unappealable and incontestable were some of the adjectives they used to define Trump's defeat.

Despite the many hours that Heredia had spent broadcasting live connecting with different programs, the current correspondent condensed the information very well. The journalist has an essential virtue: she conveys serenity and security. She does not hesitate, she does not drag out her vowels when she has to improvise, and she exudes enjoyment for what she is experiencing. The good rapport, moreover, between her and Raquel Sans, who kept the conversation moving, made an even more energetic and interesting program out of what, due to its time slot and content, could have been a bore.

Sans, Lozano, Reverter and Heredia together know so much and are so accustomed to doing live broadcasts that they sounded like a well-tuned and coordinated orchestra. Sílvia Heras completed the team from Austin. Together they found the balance between information, data interpretation, and the fair dose of opinion that their professional background allowed them. The Democratic tsunami added to the hurricane of expertise generated the appropriate television atmosphere. Grandiloquent deployments are not needed if everything is done as it should be. They connected with the appearances of some Democratic senators before their audience and complemented the analysis with experts from the United States who made contributions that contributed to the dynamism and plurality of voices of the special.

Although it was already past midnight in Washington and early morning in Catalonia, the team seemed to have energy for a while longer. A few minutes before signing off at eight in the morning, Sans asked Heredia for a final assessment. After expressing it very clearly, she apologized with a laugh in case her conclusion didn't seem elaborate enough: "Considering I have been working for twenty hours, I don't know if I have much more in me..." Sans laughed and reminded her that she still had a few hours of work left, with connections to the following programs. And so it was: on Els matins not only the correspondent but also Raquel Sans and Geni Lozano continued with Ariadna Oltra. Even though these elections were a test for Trump, this time the TV3 team has passed its own with flying colors.
