BarcelonaThis year's Piromusical was launched with Estopa, and the duo took advantage of the opportunity to make various musical and cultural announcements. One of the inevitable focuses, for example, was the Muñoz brothers' musical selection, with an eye to a balance between languages. Memories of the previous year, when Rosalía curated the Piromusical and programmed only her own hit, were still vivid. Millionaire, sung in Catalan. Estopa gave more play to the language. He also debuted a song – just as Rosalía had done with Omega–, but in that case it was in Catalan: a rumba titled Camila, sung with The Tyets.

Apart from that, five other songs were also performed in Catalan: the delicate The junk room, by Albert Pla –a song they covered in their day–, My grandfather, performed by Los Manolos (which could be seen as a nod to the controversy surrounding the recent habanera singing), The Pescaílla Rumba, of themselves, What's up kid?, from Alizzz, a beef the singer's particularity with the orthodoxy of Catalan rock and the vindictive Summer, from the much-missed Zoo. Beyond that, Estopa relied on the safe bet of the usual classics, such as Bohemian Rhapsody, from Queen, Hey Jude, by the Beatles or Hotel California, by the Eagles. Iron Maiden and AC/DC (double) demonstrated the two brothers' love for orthodox heavy metal.

The other big star of the night was the Magic Fountain, very much invigorated after years of being relegated to a corner to save water due to the drought. The enforced break has at least allowed it to be updated, and this was reflected in unprecedented choreography for the jets. The gala could be seen on TV3, with Núria Marín as the presenter, and a good number of aerial cameras, as well as cameras planted near the water, to capture the evolution of the restored fountain. In the front row, the Muñoz family enjoyed the spectacle, accompanied by friends and family. Behind them, nearly 100,000 people filled Avenida Maria Cristina.

The explosion of gunpowder—some 5,000 explosions were heard—crowned off the traditional final fireworks display and the tones that brought the night to a close, bringing to a close the festival of Barcelona, which this year had Manchester as its guest city. The countdown has already begun for next year's festival, which will change the northern English city to Shanghai's sister city.
