WashingtonAfter the shock of the electoral defeat, Donald Trump finally reacts and opts for a hardline approach. The American president has announced that he is replacing the White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles, and in her place promotes the ultra Stephen Miller. The until-now deputy chief of the presidential staff is one of the most extremist figures within the administration, being the mind behind the campaign of mass deportations and the transformation of ICE into the tycoon's armed wing.

Trump made the announcement this Friday in a post on Truth Social, where he said that "Wiles, who has done a great job, will move to the Trump Political Operation", an organization created by the president that aims to manage money in electoral campaigns. In a parallel post on X, Wiles announced that today was her last day as chief of staff, but she made no mention of her future.

The decision to make a figure like Miller chief of staff is a clear signal that Trump is betting on entrenching himself in the White House in the face of internal rifts opening up in the Republican Party and the prospect of a Democratic majority that will open numerous investigations against the Republican for his abuses of power. This rotation does not fit with the Trump who, faced with the undeniable Democratic victory, lowered his threat to apply the veto and showed a willingness to try to govern with them. It is more like the reaction of a wounded animal that finds itself cornered.

Appointing the mastermind behind the campaign of terror against migrants as chief of staff, days after an electoral defeat caused in part by the bleeding of support from Latinos for Trump, is quite eloquent as well.
