BarcelonaUnited States President Donald Trump has announced an "energy ceasefire" between Ukraine and Russia in a statement on his social network, Truth Social. According to Trump, it was an "immediate" agreement between the two parties and he has asked that they "do not break it". The announcement comes after Trump declared yesterday that "it is time for Ukraine to have another president".
The US President lashed out at Volodymyr Zelensky after the Ukrainian attack on a Russian oil export terminal. "We told him he could do whatever he wanted with Russia, but no attacks on refineries because it is causing a global problem," stated Trump, who sees how the rise in inflation and the increase in fuel prices could complicate his midterm elections. Ukraine had attacked the export plant just after the announcement of an agreement between the American and Russian presidents for Russia to deliver 300,000 tons of diesel to the United States. Zelensky had insisted that they would only stop attacking Russian oil infrastructure if the Kremlin halted bombings against Ukraine's energy facilities.
For the moment, neither Kyiv nor Moscow has confirmed Trump's announcement.
