BarcelonaPope Francis is "stable" and does not have a fever, the Vatican announced on Monday. The pontiff was hospitalized last Friday at the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome after meeting with the Prime Minister of Slovakia. Although it was initially reported that the reason for his admission was for "bronchitis", the Vatican explained today that the tests carried out so far indicate that he suffers from "a polymicrobial infection of the respiratory tract" and that his clinical picture is "complex". Therefore, according to the information, the pontiff requires "appropriate hospitalization".

Matteo Bruni, spokesman for the Church, has explained that the change in his treatment does not correspond to a "worsening" of his state of health, but is the result of the results of the analyses carried out in recent days. These have detected a more complete evaluation of the pathology, in this case, a polymicrobial infection. Bruni, who did not set a date for a possible discharge from hospital, said that at this time the Pope "is in good spirits."

Previously, the Vatican spokesman had explained that the pontiff had spent the night "quiet." "He had breakfast and devoted himself to reading newspapers," he said. On the other hand, this Monday it was also learned that Pope Francis, despite his hospitalization, has continued to communicate daily with the parish of the Holy Family of Gaza, the only Catholic one in the area. "He called us on Friday and Saturday, his voice was a bit tired, but he was in good spirits and wanted to know how we were," explained a member of the parish to a Mediaset television channel in Italy.

At this point, the Pope's office has already modified the pontiff's agenda for the next few days. Specifically, the general audience scheduled for this Wednesday has been cancelled and his presence at the Mass for the Jubilee of Deacons on Sunday has been left in the air.
