Some people are very happy in August because they have vacation time. No objection. Those of us who usually work during this month when the city of Barcelona empties out say goodbye to everyone, wishing them a good rest, and then happily welcome them back when they return or, as in today's case, when they open their doors again. The bar La Plata It's back with us, and that's cause for celebration. The other reason to be happy is that in La Plata, they don't need to introduce new things, reinvent themselves, jump on any trend, or even leave their comfort zone. It's back just the way we like it: as always.

You will find the usual menu: the fried fish dish, spike of sausage, tomato salad, onion, and Arbequina olives, or their anchovies. All at affordable prices, of course. The winning combination in this beautifully tiled establishment, a refuge for the people of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter (24 Carrer de la Mercè), who always surround the bar on this wonderful corner. They have their vermouth, wineskins to pour wine freely, a porrón for those who dare, and the photographs that fill the walls of the faces that have stopped by this authentic place that we love and will never tire of. Types of novelties and from a neighborhood that has lost too many landmarks, we are comforted by this bar that should be classified as a cultural heritage site. Here's to many years of a La Plata bar in which I don't need to change a single crumb.
