The foundation behind the breakup between Jonathan and Isak Andic
The judge points to the businessman's philanthropic project as a "possible economic motive" for the investigated facts
BarcelonaAmong the multiple frictions that the judicial interlocutory that has led to The judge in charge of instruction court number 5 of Martorell, following the analysis of the messages between father and son, identifies a "bad relationship" caused, in part, by "Mr. Jonathan Andic's obsession with money." According to the order, however, the then CEO of Mango Man learned in mid-2024 of his father's intentions to create the foundation. Following this, the evidence obtained by the Mossos reflects a "notable change" in the detainee's behavior, who "would have acknowledged that his attitude towards money is not correct."The order links, in this sense, this change of attitude with the excursion to the caves of Collbató in which Isak Andic suffered the fatal accident.
Although the foundation was never established, sources close to the family confirm to the newspaper ARA that the philanthropic activity carried out by the businessman has continued uninterrupted. The entity, they specify, is still in the plans of the Andic family. If it has not yet been made effective, it is due to the police investigation linked to the death of the Mango founder. The same sources detail that the foundation would be linked solely to the causes to which the businessman already contributed, and would have no connection with business ownership.
The philanthropic activity of businessmen
The creation of entities to channel the social activities of major business figures has been a marked continuity in recent years. At the end of 2024, the historic North American investor Warren Buffett announced that he would leave the bulk of his fortune in the hands of a foundation to be managed by his three children: Susie, Howie, and Peter Buffett.
The Nebraska magnate has been, precisely, one of the major figures behind the donations to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation —created by the founder of Microsoft and his now ex-wife—, dedicated to causes such as health access or the fight against poverty. In fact, he had been part of the entity's board of trustees until 2021, and left a few weeks after the Gates couple's divorce. Other particularly notable foundations linked to renowned companies include that of the Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk or the British Wellcome Trust, created by the historic pharmacist Henry Wellcome, founder of the former Burroughs Wellcome, one of the precursors of GSK.
