BarcelonaThe Catalan energy retailer Holaluz closed the first half of the year with losses of 8.8 million euros, 40% less than the same period last year, as explained by Holaluz's Vice President of Finance, Foix Valdé, this Friday in a press conference with the company's President and co-founder, Carlota Pi.

The company's revenue was 64.5 million up to June, 5% less than a year ago, while the EBITDA (gross profit before taxes and amortizations) recorded losses of 0.4 million, 94% less year-on-year, although the normalized EBITDA was a positive 2.1 million, compared to the negative 2.1 million in June 2025.

Carlota Pi celebrated that the first-half results show the consolidation of the positive turnaround in the company's accounts, with "exceptional profitability," and explained that the improvement is occurring because losses have decreased despite lower revenue, as they have "chosen more profitable clients over volume" and due to the increase in installations in the solar segment, with 62% more installations and 78% more revenue. Specifically, solar revenue was 6.3 million, with a normalized EBITDA of negative 0.9 million, 63% less than a year earlier.

On the other hand, the energy management division obtained a turnover of 58.2 million, 10% less compared to a year ago, with an EBITDA of 0.5 million, compared to the losses of 3.3 million a year earlier. After the debt restructuring completed during the first half of the year, the company's net liabilities were 41.3 million at the end of June, compared to 42 million at the end of 2025. Long-term debt was 29.9 million –compared to 33.2 million in December– and short-term debt was 12.3 million –9.5 million in December.

Debt

Valdé explained that the difference is a transfer of debt from long to short term due to the maturities foreseen in the restructuring plan and that it concerns a maturity at the end of 2028 which is backed by the Official Credit Institute (ICO) by 70%. In July, Holaluz had to face a disqualification proceeding due to debts in the market, although it was finally archived by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition.

Carlota Pi has ruled out any new capital increases or debt refinancings to face this maturity, and has explained that they are executing the business plan. She also said that they are "major users of artificial intelligence (AI)", since this technology has created a three-layer base in which the company can capture value. In this sense, she detailed that the infrastructure related to AI increases "significantly the energy demand" and that there are significant investments directed at the entire energy value chain, which she said Holaluz fulfills. AI has also led to an operational improvement at the company, which allows it to do "more things and more efficiently" every time, and has facilitated changes in energy companies.
