BarcelonaThe cartoonist Javier Mariscal has attacked Sant Jordi, following in the footsteps of Eduardo Mendoza, who on Monday stated: “Away with Sant Jordi. It's Book Day. It had always been called Book Day, and one day Sant Jordi got mixed up in it. He doesn't belong here”.

This Wednesday, on El matí de Catalunya Ràdio, Mariscal continued: “I really like changing things, and it makes me very nervous that we still say Holy Week and Christmas. [Sant Jordi] is one of those Catalan things that cannot be touched, like bread with tomato... Go to hell, what are you telling me? Everything changes continuously”, said the cartoonist in Catalan and Spanish.

Mariscal acknowledged that Sant Jordi “is a wonderful festival” and that it has “very well-mounted marketing”. And to Ricard Ustrell's surprise, he continued: “Now that soon the poor Pujol will leave us, we can get rid of Sant Jordi”. And referring to Mendoza, he insisted: “It's a very good idea, I agree with it”. “I really like this man”, said Mariscal.

The cartoonist presented on the radio the documentary Mariscal. The Joy of Living, directed by Laura Grande, which reviews his life and work, and where he reveals that, in addition to joys, he has also experienced depression. “I was born a little broken”, said the artist.
