Temperatures have dropped this Thursday, and for the first time this week, 40 ºC has not been reached anywhere. We have left the heatwave behind, but the heat has remained intense and fully summery, with heavy mugginess on the coast. The extraordinary and prolonged gust of warm air from North Africa continues to affect our home and part of Europe, with the main event currently in the center of the continent, after leaving many heat records in June in several countries. In the coming days, thermometers will remain similar and clearly above average, with sun and calm. But the maps are showing a cooling down for next week. Therefore, it seems that July will begin with a much more breathable atmosphere, both day and night.

Forecast map for this Friday morning.

Friday: intense heat without extremes

Temperatures will remain very similar to Thursday's this Friday. The night will be mild to warm, with cooler conditions in mountainous areas. Tropical lows will repeat along the coast and in parts of the pre-coastal areas, Ponent, and the south. In the city of Barcelona, there will again be some torrid lows, above 25 ºC.

Highs will exceed 30 ºC on the coast, where it will be noticeably muggy. Inland, many values of 34 ºC to 38 ºC will be repeated, the highest in Ponent and the interior of the Ebro. All this with sun, dust in suspension, and some decorative touches of thin clouds. In principle, no afternoon showers are expected in the Pyrenees.

Weekend still very warm

Thermometers will undergo few changes over the weekend: it will be still very intense heat with values clearly above the average. However, it seems that reaching 40 ºC again will be very difficult. All this with sun and only some showers on Sunday afternoon in the Pyrenees.

However, forecasts indicate that next week thermometers will be dropping more eagerly, and from Tuesday or Wednesday we could have more normalized values for the dates. Therefore, it seems that the more usual and breathable summer atmosphere would arrive coinciding with the first days of July. A situation still a bit uncertain that we will have to specify.
