The next weather change will arrive at the gates of May Day
A cold air mass will approach, increasing instability by mid-week
BarcelonaWe have started a new week in the same way we ended the weekend. Therefore, sun and calm have dominated in most regions, with intense heat for the season that has left up to 30 ºC or more in Ponent and in the south. But afternoon showers and storms have repeated in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, northern Catalonia Central, and the northeastern interior, with some downpours and hailstorms. And in the coming days, some changes will arrive. On Tuesday, drizzles will lose extent and will be more concentrated towards the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, but clouds and suspended dust will increase in the south. And between Thursday and Friday, instability will increase due to the arrival of a small pocket of cold air, coinciding with the start of the long May Day weekend.
Tuesday: more dust in suspension
On Tuesday there will be some changes in the weather. Sun and calm will dominate in the morning, with some low clouds or morning fogs in inland plains and hollows and on coastal stretches, especially from the Ebro. The novelty will be that in the afternoon, cloud intervals and suspended dust will increase in the south of the country. In contrast, afternoon showers will be less extensive and intense than on Monday, and will be concentrated in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. Some will also reach the south of the Valencian Country accompanied by mud.
Regarding temperatures, minimums will drop a bit in general, and maximums will also recede a few degrees. Even so, thermometers will remain high for the dates, with a warm atmosphere in the middle of the day. Many maximums will range between 23 ºC and 28 ºC, locally higher in the west and in the south.
More showers in sight
On Wednesday the situation will be similar to Tuesday's, with a variable sky and clouded by the presence of suspended dust and bands of clouds. Showers will repeat in parts of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, but some may now reach the south of the territory, always accompanied by mud.
Between Thursday and Friday, the maps indicate that a small accumulation of cold air would detach from central Europe and affect part of the Iberian Peninsula, including Catalonia. Therefore, instability will increase coinciding with the start of the long May Day weekend, but the extent it will have in our country is not clear.
The different meteorological models indicate that most of the showers and storms will be concentrated in the northern half of the country, and will also reach the coast, locally with some downpours. But it could also rain in other areas of the territory. A situation that is still uncertain and that we will have to specify and follow very closely, as depending on the final position of this remnant of cold air we will have more or less instability.
