Man arrested accused of murdering ex-partner in Murcia by violating restraining order

BarcelonaMale violence does not stop. In just 24 hours, two male murders have occurred, raising alarms in Spain. The latest was in Murcia, where a man allegedly stabbed his ex-partner to death in a shopping center. The attacker fled, but this morning the Civil Guard arrested him in the same region. According to the Superior Court of Justice of the Region of Murcia, he is accused of the crimes of "homicide and breach of sentence," as he had been convicted of mistreatment and was subject to a restraining order prohibiting him from approaching within 500 meters of the woman.

The first femicide was registered at the Llanes barracks, in Asturias, this Wednesday shortly before 1:30 PM, when a Civil Guard agent stationed at the Zamora command shot his ex-partner, with whom he had three children – an 18-year-old and 14-year-old twins. The man, who was seriously injured when the victim's colleagues tried to prevent the assault by pushing him back, also died.

The emergency telephone number 112 received the call at 5:25 PM, alerting them that a 44-year-old woman had been found dead in the back shop of the Carrefour Infante shopping center. The worker who found her notified the police, who requested medical assistance. However, the doctor who arrived by ambulance could only certify her death.

As the same sources explained to Efe, the agent was registered in the VioGén system following reports of mistreatment. Furthermore, sources close to the investigation indicated that the civil guard had open files for male violence and that, precisely, he had recently received a very serious disciplinary sanction. For this reason, he no longer had his service weapon. According to the same sources, he would have stolen from lockers or snatched a weapon from a colleague to kill his ex-partner.

The two murders are being investigated as possible cases of male violence, which would bring the total to 35 since the beginning of the year; 1,375 since 2003.
