Traces of blood and two apartments in Girona and Mataró: they are searching for the suspect in the brutal attack in Calella
Blog residents recount the attack that left the couple brain dead and the mother in critical condition.
CalellaA 25-year-old man has become the focus of much of the attention of the police in recent hours, who are searching for him everywhere. for brutally assaulting his partner and his mother-in-law in CalellaIn the Maresme region, there is currently no clear trace of where he went or where he is hiding after allegedly leaving the 20-year-old woman brain dead and her mother seriously injured – who is now hospitalized in critical condition. The incident occurred this Thursday at midday at the victims' home.
According to sources consulted by ARA, the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) have searched for him in Girona and Mataró, where he was linked to two residences. He was not at either of them. The police have fully identified him, as a security camera recorded him entering and leaving the blog. The main hypothesis is that he fled on foot. The Mossos have reviewed Renfe (Spanish national railway) security camera footage, and nothing indicates that he boarded a train. No traces of blood have been found on any train or bus. This detail is important because the attack was carried out with a pot, and there was a lot of blood at the crime scene, leading police to believe he left the apartment covered in blood. Meanwhile, investigators are monitoring his inner circle to prevent him from hiding at a friend's or relative's apartment. They are also monitoring his departures from the country, as the fugitive is a foreigner, and they haven't ruled out the possibility that he might try to return to his country of origin. He is a young man who is primarily based in Mataró. His only connection to Calella was the girl he was dating. They had been dating for some time—more than two years, according to a neighbor who knew them. This neighbor explains that the young man and the girl were often seen in the vicinity of the building, a large apartment complex that was built for tourist accommodations but where families have moved in permanently over time. The young man had at least one prior incident of domestic abuse against the girl.

The apartment where the attack took place is on the second floor, where the mother and daughter had lived for some time. The mother had also arrived from Morocco years ago and was fully integrated into the community. In fact, she worked at a hotel—currently under construction—just a few minutes' walk from her home. The apartment was left wrecked by an attack that sources close to the investigation describe as brutal. It was the neighbors who alerted the police after hearing screams and blows.
In fact, a neighbor from the first floor recounts hearing very loud bangs, like gunshots, followed by screams. She describes a woman repeatedly shouting, "Leave me alone, leave me alone." After a few seconds, she heard the woman continue screaming, but as if someone were covering her mouth to silence her. While the neighbors describe this moment, cars from the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) and the local police drive by to make sure the young man doesn't appear.
In this regard, the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, has stressed that it is not yet possible to say whether this is a case of gender-based violence. "We have information that the victims are a mother and daughter, and it is being investigated. We cannot yet say whether it is a case of gender-based violence. The perpetrator is being sought," she stated.
This Friday, more than 300 people filled the Calella Town Hall square (Maresme) to protest the attack. Mayor Marc Buch predicted that the attacker would be arrested and expressed his hope that he would be imprisoned. At the same time, Buch called for "deep reflection" to strengthen the prevention of gender-based violence.
