The mother of the mistreated baby considered kicking the father out of the house because he did not take good care of the child
The investigated one called a friend from prison to corroborate the words of the message with which she had explained to her
BarcelonaThe mother of the mistreated baby, who was hospitalized for a month, confessed to her friends that she was considering kicking Sources present at the hearing explained that the woman sent this message to her friends via WhatsApp on March 9, a week before the infant was admitted to the ICU at five weeks old. While already in provisional prison, the woman called one of her colleagues to confirm the exact words of the message in which she had told them. This Wednesday, the court has saved a copy of this chat, which could be key to the case.
The woman never explained what happened that day, but the couple continued to live together. The date of the message coincides with two days after a medical visit where it was detected that the infant had a hematoma on his face and scrotum and an anal fissure. Both the father and mother of the infant are being investigated for alleged crimes of injury, abuse, and sexual assault of the child, who remains with a foster family. The man remains in provisional prison, and the woman was released on provisional liberty after distancing herself from him by saying that as a mother she could not be a guarantor at all times, and that there are "things she cannot control." However, she has never pointed him out for abuse, and this Wednesday her lawyer emphasized the difference between "abuse" and "treating badly."
Along the same lines, a neighbor recounted a conversation on the landing that she had already reported to the Mossos d'Esquadra. This witness did not have an intimate relationship with the couple, but she spoke with them often and had also recently become a mother. In her statement to the court, she reiterated that the woman told her, about the man: "He doesn't realize how clumsy he is." He, who was also present at the conversation, downplayed the comment.
"Contempt"
According to the friends' testimony, the couple's relationship was not going well and the investigated woman had also complained a lot about how he treated her, "not for mistreatment but for contempt" and because she took care of him more than he took care of her, legal sources point out. The two friends also explained that the woman had wanted to have a child more than him, and even so, they did not see her "excited" about the pregnancy or the baby, but rather saw "more sadness" which they attributed to tiredness.
The two women also explained that they did not understand why the couple went to four different health centers before going to Vall d'Hebron, where she worked. The investigated woman did not give them any explanation, and they attributed it to the fact that she would not have been happy with the care she received during childbirth.
Among the witnesses who testified this Wednesday is also a social worker from Vall d'Hebron who was present for the three days from when the baby was admitted until the couple was arrested. She was also there when a woman sharing a room with the baby asked for help for the baby, with a "Please help the baby" ["Sisplau, ajudin el nadó", in English], because she had seen the father treating him roughly and it was she who informed them that the mistreatment protocol was being activated. Today she recalled that both of them became angry when they heard they were being questioned. She interviewed the child's parents both jointly and separately without them giving her any answer that explained the child's injuries, and she assured that one day before the arrests she spoke privately with the woman and she gave the same version as she had given when the man was present.
