Barcelona / MartorellThe Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested Jonathan Andic, the son of Mango founder Isak Andic, for the death of his father, who died at the age of 71 while hiking in the Salnitre caves on December 14, 2024. Although initially treated as an accident, a few months ago the Mossos began investigating Andic's son, the only person with whom the businessman was hiking that day, for homicide. The Mossos arrested him this morning at his home and took him to the Martorell police station. Around 12:45 PM he was transferred to the city's courts, where he arrived handcuffed. His lawyer, Cristóbal Martell, was already waiting for him there.

Andic's son has declared several times to the police, never as a suspect, and has always explained that his father's death was an accident. Even so, the Mossos investigators detected some contradictions in his account. Furthermore, in the dump of the father's mobile phone, as explained by ARA, the Mossos found some messages that further focused on the son. In these conversations, the bad relationship they had was evident, but there was no conclusive evidence of what happened in Collbató.

All this led the Mossos to investigate Jonathan Andic for his father's death. They confiscated his mobile phone and have thoroughly emptied it in recent months in search of evidence. This process has concluded with the son's arrest.

Authorized spokespersons for the Andic family have wanted to convey this message: "Jonathan Andic is currently testifying within the framework of the proceedings for the accident of December 14, 2024. At this moment we cannot add much more because there is a gag order. Collaboration has been and will be maximum within the framework of these proceedings," they state from the family.

Foreseen scenario

That Jonathan Andic would end up testifying as an investigated person before the judge of Martorell who is investigating the case is a scenario that, over the months, all sources consulted by ARA have taken for granted. The doubt was whether the Mossos investigators opted to arrest him and then take him to testify or if he would be summoned without a prior arrest. Finally, the Catalan police have opted for the first option.

Meanwhile, a large operation by the Mossos has cordoned off the headquarters of the Martorell courts, where Jonathan Andic is expected to testify as an investigated person. There is already considerable media expectation at the courts.
