BarcelonaOnce again, Barcelona is taking advantage of the summer holidays to carry out improvement works on the metro network. And once again, these renovations entail service restrictions. This time, the main line affected is Line 4, with a third of its stops closed from June 25 to August 31. The closure will affect the section between Verdaguer and Trinitat Nova stations. Service will resume between Verdaguer and Maragall in the first week of September, but the stations between Maragall and Trinitat Nova will remain closed. In turn, the work on the yellow line will also result in the closure of the Trinitat Nova station on Line 11 between June 25 and September 7.

The closure will affect up to 60,000 users during peak travel times—weekdays in July—and will force these commuters to seek alternatives. Barcelona's First Deputy Mayor, Laia Bonet, and TMB's General Manager, Xavier Flores, have stressed the importance of users choosing to use the other metro lines. "We must use the metro as much as possible," Flores stressed, arguing that the fact that most people choose other lines on the network "will help everything go more smoothly."

In this regard, TMB will reinforce metro lines 3 and 5, which cover part of the cut section on the yellow line: line 3 connects the Passeig de Gràcia and Trinitat Nova stations, and line 5 connects the Verdaguer and Maragall stops.

In addition, while the outage lasts, TMB will operate a shuttle bus service that follows the metro schedule—and will depart every four minutes during rush hour—and will stop at all affected metro stations, covering the route in approximately 48 minutes. A special bus service will also be offered for users with reduced mobility, taking them from Verdaguer—a station that is not yet adapted and where work is just beginning to do so—to Girona, where there are elevators so they can access the metro.

Coincident construction work in the city

Bonet acknowledged that this time the metro works are coming at a time of significant citywide interventions, and he wanted to thank the public for their "patience and adaptability." In fact, the shuttle bus will be affected for several weeks by the roadworks that will be carried out this summer. Pino y Margall and will be forced to modify the route.

Bonet emphasized that the metro works are already scheduled during the school holidays to minimize the impact on public mobility. They are aimed at completely renewing six kilometers of track and the signaling system. A new escape route will be installed in Maragall, which will allow for a reduction in the number of affected stations on the line in the future when incidents occur on that section.
